For more than 90 years now, the Argentine Congresses on Road Administration and Traffic have been gaining a significant relevance as benchmark forum in the road and road transport sector, as well as in all those directly or indirectly related-aspects. Today, this Congress has undoubtedly earned international recognition, as shown in the last editions. Its turnout has crossed the geographic boundaries of our country, with the attendance of international representatives from the five continents.

In 1922, through an initiative of the Touring Club Argentino, the first edition was held in the City of Buenos Aires, organized by the National Road Administration Directorate. Thus, four Congresses were held until 1940.

Several international and local developments resulted in the discontinuation of these congresses, but they did not undermine the determination of the people involved in the organization, who, after overcoming the shortcomings, resumed the congresses.

So, in the III Annual General Meeting of the Consejo Vial Federal it was decided to continue holding these Congresses and to encourage the scheduling of a new edition. Against this background, between November 5th and 13th, 1964, the 5th Road Administration Congress was held in the City of Embalse de Río Tercero, Córdoba Province, and the name “Argentine Congress on Road Administration and Traffic” was then coined. Simultaneously, the Standing Committee was set up to organize these Congresses, chaired by the President of the Consejo Vial Federal – agency responsible for its organization ever since. From there, the congresses were resumed and organized year after year, holding several congresses to date. Note that each edition had a bigger turnout, with a growing number of professionals and technicians from the country and abroad attending the event. The last Congress held in the Gran Hotel Provincial, City of Mar del Plata, gathered more than 1,200 professionals and technicians, with the presence of important delegations from many countries. During the Congress, over 150 papers were discussed, not only from our country but also from Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Spain, Israel, Japan, Romania, Russia, Uruguay and Venezuela. Likewise, a special note is made at the special lectures delivered by well-known specialists from our country and others such as Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Spain, United States of America, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and Uruguay.

We should also note the huge success of the Expovial Argentina 2009, road exhibition visited by more than 10,000 professionals; with more than 100 domestic and foreign exhibitors.
